Hotel Mayan Palace Submerged Breakwater South of Cancun Mexico..mostly construction shots. The Hotel Mayan Palace in Cancun deployed 1560 Reef Balls. The Reef Balls were not anchored properly by the contractor and substandard concrete mix designs where used. Hurricanes have destroyed many of the units due to these construction errors. Since this lesson, Reef Beach (the erosion control division of the Reef Ball Foundation) no longer allows clients to build their own submerged breakwaters and only allows building by authorized contractors trained in anchoring techniques and proper concrete quality.
