FFWC project "Secret Reef" project
Coastal Reef Builders, Inc. in Pensacola built thousands of Golieth sized Reef Ball for a FFWC project. The units weigh in at over 6,000 pounds and are some of the largest Reef Balls ever mass produced. This project scattered the reef balls widely in the panhandle region and GPS numbers were kept secret so that they would serve as fish producing reefs. Monitored after the hurricanes...they are doing very well at producing red snapper, grouper, and a great variety of other fish. Coastal Reef Builders, Inc. (our authorized contractor in Pensacola Florida) finished at the end of June 2003 Florida Fish and Wildlife Division's "hidden habitat" project where hundreds of Reef Balls were placed in secret individual placements at night throughout Florida Panhandle waters in order to create fish refuge without focused fishing pressures. Scientists have suggested for many years that this type of reef construction could led to greater increases in fish stocks than published reef sites.
